: What percentage of non-federal or federal officers would be able to identify M16 fire control components in an AR15 (or similar) by visual inspection?
: How well informed are these guys?
I'm a LE officer and I can tell you, if an officer encounters the weapon type descriped he will be very susipious, of such a work of art. He would probably call for somoeone who has more knowledge on firearms, then himself. I for one can most certain tell the diffirence by bolt, hammer, etc. If you did have such and, and it wasn't poperly licensed one better have some imaginative lawyers. The penalty for poss. of such a weapon is a serious crime. If convicted under fed. statutes the penalty is 10 years in the house of many bars. All states have laws on the books making poss. of such weapons high crime, one would guess with serious penalties. But to answer your question, not many officers would be able to tell by internal parts, or just looking at the weapon.
