: : : My friend is telling me to buy a Glock 23 for my first gun. Is Glock a good brand? What other options do I have. Thanks.
: : No! Glocks have such a mixed reputation that I don't trust them. Stick to Ruger, H&K;,
: : or S&W; in automatics and you should do O.K.
: Hate to disagree, but my Glock 19 is one of the most reliable semi-autos that I have ever used, in firing probably 50,000+ rds(over the years) I have never experianced a single jam(or malfunction of any type for that matter), of those 50,000+ rds fired, probably 5,000 or more were of the +P+(high presure) variety, and so-far my Glock has digested everything I put into it without a single hitch.
: One disadvantage though is that Glocks tend to kick a little harder than your garden variety semi-auto due to their lightweight, and I can honestly say that the trigger just plain sux.
: I also have a Ruger P89, and have played with various S&W; semi-autos, and to be honest so-far I'm just not impressed, the Ruger autos are too wide and bulkey to even consider as a carry piece, and I have seen quite a few malfuntions from both my P89, and some of the various S&W; autos.
: I have never got my hands on any of the H&K; autos, but for some of the asking prices I've seen I think I can honestly say that I'm not missing anything.
I carry Glocks M-21. I can take out a sentry from 3 feet under water using FMJ. Trust your Glock for the money. Personally I prefer the H&K; 45 socom with supressor and ir/vr laser. Good hunting. Maverick
: It would be hard for me to recommend a Glock to anyone as a carry piece(due to the lack of a manual saftey), but as a home defense gun, or a plinker, you could do alot worse, and for the current prices of $360-$450 I think you'd definatly be getting your money's worth.
