My point is that the law simply says you cannot make a fiream out of imported parts that cannot be imported. Since you can no longer import even with the thumbhole stock you would not be making an un-importable firearm since the original gun was no longer importable anyway.
:
: : Title 18, Sec922(r) says you cannot assemble out of imported parts a smioutomatic rifle that cannot be imported.
: : Clinton bans the import of these sporters.
: : Then that means that all of the imported receivers made between '89 and '94 can go full blown assault rifle configuration,
: : and those after Sep 13, 94 can have pistol grips on them.
: : Am I dilusional, or is this correct?
: WRONG!!!!! Bush banned the importation of assault rifles in '89, assault rifles imported after that had to have thumbhole stocks,no flash hiders, no bayonet lug. Parts were still able to be imported and assembled into weapons as long as they didn't have any of the pre-ban features and from my understanding as long as you didn't build them for resale.Personal use was ok.So the way I see it is,all weapons imported after '89 still have to have the thumbhole stock, no flash hider, no bayo.lug. The most recent ban has put a stop on all further import of these guns and parts for at least 120 days (I think). But, more than likely, forever.Exception to the above would be if you installed one of the US made parts kits wich allow you the pistol grip stock since the kit brings down the number of imported parts.
